Antiquing day

Madison-Bouckville

Bouckville and Madison sit a few miles apart on Route 20, twenty-four miles southwest of Utica. For one week each August the fields on both sides of the road become what the promoter bills as New York State's largest antiques fair — 2,000-plus dealers spread across several show fields, each independently run. Outside that week the corridor's permanent shops and co-ops stay open, and the Holiday Stroll brings a smaller version back in November.

Practical information

Getting there
About 40 minutes from Utica (NY-12B through Clinton and Oriskany Falls, or NY-12 through Waterville, then Route 20 west)
Parking
The promoter advertises parking at several fields without pricing it. Indian Opening Acres, a nine-acre field at 6811 Indian Opening Rd, charges $5 a day for a car or pickup and opens its public lot at 7 a.m.
Reservations
Nothing to book. Lodging in Cazenovia and the Butternut Hill campground fill during August week.
Cost
No admission price is published by the promoter for either the August week or the Holiday Stroll. The cost you can count on is parking — $5 a day at Indian Opening Acres. Bring cash: dealers vary on cards, and the ATM is outside the Indian Opening Acres office.
Weather
The show fields are outdoors and mostly unshaded. The permanent shops are indoors and are the wet-weather version of the same trip.
Seasonal notes
Individual show fields set their own dates — Out Front Show Field runs Aug 6–15, three days longer than the official week
The promoter publishes no admission price for either show; only Indian Opening Acres publishes a parking charge
Several permanent shops open Thursday to Sunday only, and Madison Inn Antiques drops to Friday–Sunday 10–4:30 in winter
